ELICA

Elica - organo di propulsione per natanti a motore.

This is the dictionary meaning of the word Elica which means organ of propulsion for floating to motor. But what makes this word more interesting is, this is the word which has caught everyone's eyes in the Tokyo Motor Show this year.

This car was developed by the industry-university joint research center whose members include the Keio University Electric Car Research Center and 38 companies. This electric vehicle, which uses lithium batteries, has achieved high speed specs, with an acceleration velocity of 0.8G, reaching 400 km/h at maximum speed (the actual record to date is 370km/h). Moreover, the fuel-efficient cars of late has mileage of a few dozen kilometers, however, ELICA, surprisingly, is able to run 100 km on just 100 yen of electric fuel. Naturally enough, the Eliica roadgoing prototype aims to offer the ultimate environment and safety standards – power will be available by plugging into the mains electricity where it will take 10 hours to take on a full charge which should offer the 2,400kg Eliica a range of 200 kilomtres.

It was designed after the catamaran ships of the Polynesia; its streamlined body is sandwiched closely by eight tires, minimizing wind resistance and increasing the stability of the car body. Though it looks to be limousine length, the Eliica actually only seats the driver and three passengers – small consolation is that at an approximate US$320,000 a unit in prototype form, the car will still be in a limousine price range when manufactured in production quantities. We hope that dream cars like this will be made available to us soon.

King Kong

Move over Steven Spielberg, the new blockbuster-maker is here to stay. Peter Jackson's masterful retelling of King Kong is a spectacular achievement by any standard, the kind of awesomely BIG film that's incredibly hard to describe. Peter Jackson has always been an inspired filmmaker, a fact fan of his uproarious and supremely cheesy B-grade horror films will attest to. With gore classics like Bad Taste and Brain dead, it was surprising to see the filmmaker unforgettably take on the ambitions of adapting J R R Tolkien's masterpiece.

King Kong is an old story first told in movie form in 1933, so if I spoil any plot points you'll have to forgive the fact that the script is 72 years old. Risk-taking director Carl Denham takes an American crew from the relatively safe streets of the US to the uncharted Skull Island, a land that time and evolution have forgotten. Inhabited by giant dinosaur-like creatures -- Jackson calls the T-Rex a "V-Rex" -- and ruled by a giant and wildly powerful gorilla , Skull Island is where the crew crash lands and must explore to escape. Denham (played by the spirited Jack Black), Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts), Hayes (Evan Parke), and Jack Driscoll (Adrien Brody) all play a large part in the movie. Andy Serkis (Gollum from Lord Of The Rings) who also plays Lumpy, a one-eyed cook in the film, grunts emphatically enough to make King Kong breathe, giving him soul. From anger to indignation, surprise to ecstasy, we are soon empathizing, totally bowled over by the mammoth monkey. A scene on a frozen lake is indescribably beautiful, and pure movie magic.

Despite the shortness and a handful of scripting errors, Peter Jackson's King Kong is in many ways a huge step forward in level design and presentation, it's beautiful and, most importantly, it's fun.

Bluffmaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Roy (Abhishek Bachchan) is a professional conman, who has raised his work to the level of an art. The only true thing he has is his love for Simmi (Priyanka Chopra), someone who is so rooted, honest and sincere, that he can't bring himself to tell her the reality of who he is. But when his past catches up with him, she cannot forgive him for the deceit their relationship is built on. He loses her forever.

That's when Aditya Srivastav (Riteish Deshmukh) enters the picture. He is the counterpoint to everything that Roy is, as frantic as Roy is calm, as dumb as Roy is smart, as messy and untidy as Roy is smooth. They have only one thing in common. Aditya is a conman too. At least he thinks of himself as one. In Roy's book, he's an embarrassment. But one that won't go away!

Despite himself, or maybe to take his mind off Simmi, he agrees to teach Dittu the rules of the game. In that process, he melts and warms up to the boyish charm of his 'student'. That's when his world is spun upside down. He is forced to face facts that are a slap in the face. Suddenly Roy, who prides himself on being able to cheat anyone and anything, is pushed into a corner from where there is no exit.

With an outstanding and innovative musical score featuring a dazzling array of international and local talent, Bluffmaster! Promises an exhilarating roller coaster ride full of laughs, excitement and emotions that are quite unprecedented.
